Pest control

More recurring pest control plans, fewer one-time treatments.

Get the call the night someone finds a roach, then keep that customer on a plan for years.

The problem

The first treatment is not where you make your money. The fifth one is. Most companies lose the customer before the second.

Someone finds droppings in the pantry or a roach on the kitchen counter at 9pm. They are grossed out and a little embarrassed, and they want it gone tomorrow. They call two or three companies. The one that answers, or texts back right away, gets the visit. The rest never hear about it. If your techs are in the field and the office phone goes to voicemail after 5, you are losing exactly the calls that are most ready to book.

Then comes the leak nobody sees on the books. The treatment works, the customer is happy, and nobody offers them a plan. Or they are offered one on the spot, say they will think about it, and never hear from you again. A one-time job pays once. A quarterly plan pays every few months for as long as they own the house, and it is the reason a pest control company is worth something when the owner wants to sell it.

Plans leak too. Cards expire, a customer skips a visit, somebody moves and the new owner never gets a call. Every canceled account quietly drops out of the route, and with no follow-up, the only way to replace it is to buy another new customer.

Meanwhile the higher-ticket work goes somewhere else. Termite treatments and renewals, bed bugs, rodent exclusion, mosquito programs for the summer. Customers who already trust you would buy them, but if your ads and your website only say "pest control," they search for the specific problem and find a company that talks about it.

How people pick a pest control company

Most calls start with an urgent search on a phone: "exterminator near me," "bed bugs," "mice in walls." People look at the map, the star ratings and the first few results, and call whoever looks trustworthy and can come soon. For bed bugs and roaches, a lot of customers also care about discretion, and they read reviews looking for words like "quiet," "on time" and "gone after one visit."

Parents and pet owners ask the same question every time: is this safe for my kids and my dog? How your techs and your website answer that, honestly and within the rules, decides a lot of bookings.

The work follows the calendar. Termites swarm in spring, ants, wasps and mosquitoes peak in summer, and rodents move indoors when it gets cold. Home sales bring their own stream of termite inspection requests. The companies that stay booked are the ones talking about the right pest at the right time of year.

What to watch in this industry

Be careful with safety claims. Some states, California among them, prohibit pest control advertising that calls a treatment "safe," "harmless" or "nontoxic to humans and pets," even with a qualifier. We write ads and pages that explain your process and precautions honestly without making claims that can get you in trouble with your state regulator. Google Local Services Ads also ask for your state licenses and insurance before you can run, and pause if something lapses.

The other trap is paying for calls that will never become a plan. Shared lead sites sell the same request to several companies, and cheap one-time offers attract people who only want the cheapest spray. We track which ads bring customers who stay on a plan, not just which ones make the phone ring, and move the budget toward those.

Questions

What owners ask us.

Are Local Services Ads worth it for pest control?
For most companies, yes. You pay per lead instead of per click, and you show up at the top when someone is searching with an urgent problem. You need your state license and insurance on file, and the leads still need a fast answer. We set it up and watch lead quality.
Can I advertise that my treatments are safe for kids and pets?
Be very careful. Some states prohibit calling pesticide applications safe or nontoxic, even with a qualifier. We explain what you do to protect families and pets in honest terms that stay within the rules.
How do I get more customers on recurring plans?
Offer it more than once. Most one-time customers are never followed up with after the visit. An automatic follow-up after every one-time treatment, plus a check-in before the next season, brings in plans without adding work for your office.
How much does this cost?
It depends on your business: your service area, your mix of one-time and recurring work, and what is already bringing in calls. We quote it on the call once we understand it. Ad spend is separate and is paid directly to Google or Meta from your own account.
Do you market termite, bed bug and mosquito services separately?
Yes. People search for the specific pest, so each one gets its own ads and pages, timed to when that problem actually shows up in your area.
